Peter Frost

I’ve lived in the New Forest for many years, and its beautiful countryside and wildlife are the inspiration behind my paintings. Spending time outdoors, whether walking or fishing, helps me capture the true atmosphere of the landscape. I’m also passionate about conserving the area, and my knowledge of its history and geography shapes my work. As a member of the New Forest Painters, I enjoy painting in oils, publishing a book on the area, and holding annual exhibitions in Brockenhurst. We also travel across Britain to explore and paint its beauty.

Janet Langford

Janet, born in 1951, developed a love for nature, gardening, and art from a young age. Although excelling in art, she pursued a career in science, studying biology, chemistry, and mathematics, and working in biological research for 13 years. During this time, she attended evening art classes at Southampton College, where her tutor encouraged her artistic ambitions. In 1983, she left her scientific career to focus on painting. Her work, featuring local scenes and flower studies in small oval frames, quickly gained popularity in local exhibitions and galleries.

Sue Kerrigan

Hello and welcome - I'm a portrait artist and i love to use soft pastel and sometimes graphite. I've been a professional artist since 2015 and I love my job! My passion is people portraits and then I was asked to paint animals too. I love painting life - especially eyes - it's a shame we only have two! One Christmas a few years ago my sister bought me a surprise gift or 6 pastel pencils. I laughed out loud both curious and nervous at why she had given me 'colours' to draw with. After all, I only use graphite. My sister said "you can colour in your portraits" more laughter. But I took my sketch book and did as I was told in a tongue in cheek kind of way. Well, my sister thought it was fabulous (I didn't) but it was just enough encouragement to spark my curiosity and have a go with these 6 pastel pencils. I thought I better had after she was so kind to buy them for me. So I painted a very naive portrait of a girl in the only colours i had - red and blue hair! Again my sister loved it and so I thought I'd have a serious attempt at a portrait. Needless to say, I am in love with pastel now and haven't gone back to graphite since.

Barry Miles

I was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, February 21, 1943,  and educated at Cirencester Grammar School. I did four years at Gloucestershire College of Art from 1959 until 1963: two years in Stroud and two in Cheltenham, something I’ve covered in my In The Sixties. In Stroud I lived with three other artists in a classic ‘beatnik pad’, in fact more of a prototype hippie commune. I graduated with an NDD and followed college with a year at the University of London Institute of Education at Senate House (1963-4) learning to be an art teacher. I received my ATD but never taught. Instead I walked down the Charing Cross Road and got a job in Joseph Poole’s bookshop. A few months later, I moved two doors up the street and got a job as manager of the paperback section of Better Books organising readings, film-shows, etc. and importing all manner of mimeographed poetry magazines from the States and Europe. Allen Ginsberg stayed with me in 1965 and the Royal Albert Hall Poetry Festival was initially thought of and organised from Better Books.
